GREEN, Ohio — A Giant Eagle Market District was evacuated Tuesday because of structural concerns pertaining to the roof.

The fire department was called to the store on Corporate Woods Parkway in Green around 8:30 a.m.

Several areas of the roof were sagging and engineers were called to inspect it.

The Green Fire Department told Fox 8 News it appeared to be a weather related issue.

Three to four inches of ice along with four to five inches of snow had accumulated on the roof.

About 40 people, including employees, were inside at the time of the evacuation.

Minor maintenance, including some snow shoveling, was done and the store was permitted to reopen at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

No one was hurt.

Giant Eagle released the following statement, Tuesday afternoon:

“Earlier this morning we became aware of a need for minor roof maintenance at our Green Market District. The store reopened shortly before 1:00 p.m., following confirmation from structural engineers that there was no structural damage to the building, and that it was safe for occupancy. The store experienced an issue with its rooftop snow deflection system, causing snow to accumulate more than it would typically. There were no injuries to Team Members or customers, nor was any product damaged as a result.”
