DEERFIELD TWP., OH — The Deerfield Fire Department is proving no task is too big, or to small, to take on.

Friday afternoon, firefighters were called to a report of a dog in the water at the Berlin Reservoir near Timmons Drive off of Fewtown Road.

There, firefighters found a long-legged beagle in the water about 100 feet from shore where the ice ended. The fire department says the dog broke through the ice and could not get out.

Seven firefighters suited up in ice rescue suits and entered the water to retrieve the dog. The dog shook off and ran into the woods, wagging its tail.

Fire officials are warning residents in the area that the ice is not ready to travel on.
